Murder of a Quebecer in Mexico | Authorities make an arrest

Mexican police have arrested a man in connection with the murder of a Quebec man in the Pacific coast resort town of Puerto Escondido last week.

The Oaxaca state attorney general said in a statement Friday that an arrest warrant has been issued for a Puerto Escondido man identified only by his initials.

According to prosecutors, this suspect was arrested in connection with the murder of Victor Masson, who was found dead in his car on May 15 in this neighborhood where tourists usually stay.

The suspect, originally from Puerto Escondido, is identified only by his initials.

Days after the victim’s body was discovered, a senior district prosecutor confirmed that Mr Masson’s murder occurred in connection with an altercation over an unpaid bill at a local restaurant the previous evening.

Victor Masson, 27, was from the Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean region.

Mexican authorities said Mr. Masson was visiting as a tourist and had arrived in the coastal town the day before the murder with his Mexican girlfriend.
