Murder of a man in Sherbrooke | A suspect appeared on Saturday

(Montreal) A suspect appeared Saturday at the Sherbrooke courthouse in connection with the murder of a 52-year-old man that occurred the day before.

“He appeared for armed assault on another victim,” said Catherine Bernard, spokesperson for the Sûreté du Québec (SQ), specifying that the police force is continuing the investigation into the homicide.

The SQ could not provide the name of the suspect who appeared.

Emergency services were notified early Friday morning, around 5:10 a.m., of the stabbing which occurred near a home on Gillespie Street, in the city center.

The man was found outside the residence with serious injuries, according to preliminary information. He was in critical condition when transported to hospital, the Sherbrooke Police Service (SPS) initially indicated. His death was confirmed this morning by the SQ.

Late Friday afternoon, the SQ announced that it had made an arrest in connection with this murder. A 44-year-old man from Sherbrooke surrendered to authorities.

The Bureau of Independent Investigations (BEI) is also conducting an investigation into this matter since the Sherbrooke police officers had gone to the same address a few hours earlier.
