Daphnée Jolivet could therefore have been the victim of reprisals, according to various sources familiar with the matter who preferred to remain anonymous.

The latter would have encouraged a young woman to report her attacker to the authorities in 2022. The person involved in this case is currently awaiting trial in another ongoing case.

The murder which occurred on rue Geneviève-Lamarre is the sixth to occur in Quebec in 2023.

Remember that the 19-year-old young woman was found lifeless in the basement of her family home, alongside a 16-year-old boy who was seriously injured. A bladed weapon was allegedly used to attack them.

It was the arrest of another 16-year-old for impaired driving and vehicle theft that led authorities to the macabre discovery. His role in this whole story, however, has not yet been established.

A caring woman

Upset by the events, friends are still struggling to understand what could have pushed the assassin to attack such a “sweet woman”.

“She was so attentive to everyone, we all have a hard time believing it. I wish I had the time to tell her that she meant a lot to me,” breathes Gabrielle Guay, a friend of the victim for several years.

The news had the effect of a bomb in those around the young woman who was studying special education technology. She had “no shady associations,” say friends contacted by The newspaper.

“She was such a sweet, exceptional woman. She chose her friends well, she would never have rubbed shoulders with unfriendly people,” says Marie-Ève Boîteau, friend of Mme Jolivet since primary school.

“No one is safe”

Given the incredible attack of which the young woman was the victim, not to mention the other murders that have occurred in the area since the beginning of the year, many are asking questions about their own safety.

The victim, Daphnée Jolivet, was stabbed to death.

“I think everyone feels a little unsafe right now. If a woman like Daphnée could be attacked like that, no one is safe,” laments Gabrielle Guay.

A heart “as big as that”

Like her circle of friends, her colleagues at the Mgr Marcoux Center (CMM) find it hard to believe that they will no longer see the discreet smile that Daphnée Jolivet gave as she walked through the door.

“It was a shock for everyone when we heard the news. Daphnée, she spent a lot of time at the center in her life. When she was young, she came to the day camp here and often participated in the activities, then she was a counselor for several summers,” says the general director, Olivier Mercier.

For a year, the young woman had been a community organizer for Adozone. Every week, she spent evenings with teenagers who attend CMM. She organized activities and outings to provide them with a positive environment and allow them to build relationships with each other.

“You have to have a big heart like that and exemplary patience to work with this clientele and Daphnée had these great qualities,” notes a colleague met by The newspaper.
