Two men were arrested Tuesday in Ontario in connection with the murder of Bernard Cherfan, who was shot in the head in a Laval restaurant on 1er last June, in front of many witnesses.
A 19-year-old man, Tafari Bezabeh, appeared at the Laval courthouse on Wednesday by videoconference from a detention center in Toronto. He faces a charge of first degree murder.
Jalen Joel Campbell Brown, 21, was also arrested Tuesday in Ontario by investigators from the Crimes Against Person Investigation Service of the Sûreté du Québec (SQ). He also appeared by videoconference on Wednesday to face charges of first degree murder and accessory after the fact.
The two young men had already been arrested in July in connection with a shooting that occurred on June 19 in Toronto, about two weeks after their alleged visit to the Laval restaurant where they allegedly opened fire on Bernard Cherfan.
A 24-year-old man lost his life in the tragic event in the Queen City and seven other people, including two teenagers, were injured.
Note that the arrest of Jalen Joel Campbell Brown took place in Montreal.
Three suspects
Three suspects have therefore been arrested so far in connection with the murder of Bernard Cherfan. Shortly after the events, last June, investigators arrested Britney Lewis, also a resident of Ontario.
Recall that Bernard Cherfan, 42, was killed by at least one bullet in the head while he was eating soup, seated at the restaurant La Perle vietnamienne, on the boulevard des Laurentides.
The murder, which occurred at 7:25 p.m., was committed in front of several stunned customers, including children.
Quickly, the Laval police had transferred the investigation to the SQ since the murder would have been committed in a context of organized crime.
According to our information, Bernard Cherfan, who was considered a member of the Lebanese underworld and close to the Frenn brothers and the Saoumaa brothers, would have maintained links with several high-level criminal organizations, including the Sicilian clan of the Montreal mafia and that whom the police still consider to be its leader, Stefano Sollecito.
