(Munich) Quebecer Félix Auger-Aliassime lost 7-5, 6-4 to German Jan-Lennard Struff in the quarter-finals of the Munich Tennis Open on Saturday.
The match had been interrupted the day before due to rain, while Struff (28e) led 7-5 and 3-1.
Auger-Aliassime (34e) was broken from the outset in the second set before the stoppage and was never able to come from behind. Struff took advantage of his second match point with balls in hand to end the duel.
On the Munich clay court, where he was trying to win a third match in a row for the first time this season, “FAA” struggled to be incisive on serve. He placed only 65% of his first serves in play and won 57% of rallies when he did. It has been broken four times in seven occasions.
His last victory in the quarter-final on clay dates back to the Lyon tournament in 2019.
In the semi-final, Struff will cross swords with the Dane Holger Rune (12e), who defeated the Swiss Marc-Andrea Huesler (223e) 6-4 and 7-6 (3), Friday.
