They will be preceded by an exhibition in ardent chapel in Ottawa and Montreal.

“His funeral will provide us with the opportunity to pay tribute to his incredible legacy, which will continue to shape our country for many generations,” Justin Trudeau said in a press release.

Ottawa did not intend to release the exact location of the funeral on Tuesday. The choice to hold the former prime minister’s final tribute in Montreal fell to his family, all organized in conjunction with the government.

According to the federal government website, state funerals will be open to the public and allow those who wish to attend in person to mourn the memory of the deceased.

To mark the death of Brian Mulroney, Prime Minister François Legault announced last week that the Quebec flag would be flown at half-mast on the parliament buildings until the day of the funeral.

Born in Baie-Comeau, Mr. Mulroney died on February 29 at the age of 84. His death provoked a shower of tributes from all sides for the man and his entire career.
