The Sureté du Québec (SQ) calls on the population of the MRC des Pays-d’en-Haut to be careful, since the number of vehicle thefts has been on the rise for several months.
The vehicles targeted mainly are Ford brand trucks and Honda CRV SUVs. The majority of the thefts occurred in Saint-Sauveur.
The thefts occur in public parking lots of hotels or in outdoor centres.
The SQ urges caution by mentioning that you must avoid leaving valuables in your vehicle. The police suggest a few safe habits such as the use of a GPS tracking system to trace their vehicle in the event of theft.
“At home, do not leave your keys near the front door and preferably store them in a metal case, especially if your vehicle has an electronic system such as a push button to start the car, offered the SQ in a press release. Get an anti-theft bar that attaches to the steering wheel of your vehicle or a shoe that will block the wheels of your vehicle.
If you want to report a theft, contact your local police department or call 9-1-1.
