U-turn in Parliament. The deputies rejected by a very large majority, Wednesday November 29 in the law committee of the National Assembly, an article introduced by the senators which transformed state medical aid (AME) into emergency medical aid (AMU) , in the immigration bill.
The rapporteur of the bill, Florent Boudié (Renaissance), stressed that this was a question falling within the “individual health”but also of a “question of collective health”. However, it is not a question of “close the debate”, a report on the subject to be submitted on December 4.
State medical aid, which came into force on January 1, 2000, allows foreigners in an irregular situation to benefit from 100% coverage of medical and hospital care, financed by the State, “within the limits of Social Security rates”, specifies the official website of the French administration. To benefit from an AME admission card, applicants must meet certain criteria, such as having stayed in France for more than three months and having an annual income of less than 9,719 euros (for a single person living in a city).
