The measure was hailed as “historical” by the general rapporteur of the text. The deputies adopted, Friday December 1st in committee, an amendment from the Liot group (Liberties, independents, overseas and territories), which prohibits the placement of all minors under the age of 18 in administrative detention centers (CRA ), but also in administrative detention facilities.

The amendment was adopted with the favorable opinion of the Minister of the Interior. Gérald Darmanin declared that it was a “human measure”which allows you not to give to children aged 3 or 4 years old “mental, psychological and even physical constructions” which would mark them. Initially, the project bill tabled by the government limited this ban to 16 years.

For the LFI MP, Danièle Obono, this ban is a good thing, but not a “great victory”. “No, it is not a great victory to return to what should be the fundamentals of our Republic”, she said. The Law Committee of the National Assembly is currently studying the immigration bill. The examination of the text must last until December 3.
