Driven by the success ofA little something extra and of Inside Out 2, French movie theaters have experienced their “best June since 2013“, welcomed the National Center for Cinema and the Animated Image (CNC) on Tuesday, July 2, in a press release.
This recovery was also “supported“by the flying start of the 2024 edition of the Fête du cinéma (June 30-July 3) which reached”a historic record“on his first day on Sunday”with nearly 1.4 million” of entries, specifies the CNC in its press release.
With 13.18 million admissions, attendance increased by “28.9% compared to June 2023“.
It is a French film which occupies the first place in the ranking for the month: A little something extrathe comedy that takes the side of laughing with people with disabilities, signed by the comedian and actor Artus, which has crossed 8 million admissions.
The highly anticipated animated film Inside Out 2 from Pixar and Disney studios, devoted to the pangs of adolescence, reached second place, followed by the American police comedy Bad Boys: Ride or Die. Another French work climbs to 4th place in the ranking despite only a few days of operation: it is the Count of Monte Cristo with Pierre Niney, released Friday June 28which already has more than a million admissions.
However, total attendance for the first six months of the year (84.64 million admissions) is slightly down compared to 2023 (91.19 million admissions), i.e. -7.2%.
Before a “Recovery in attendance clearly started in May“, the first four months of 2024 have seen a “air pocket“, “mainly attributable to a factor external to the French market“, to know “the relative absence of American blockbuster films“, notes the CNC.
