Movie gift, a favorite holiday moment

Ciné-cadeau is celebrating its 40th birthday this year, and the program is now available to viewers, young and old.

Families crazy about Ciné-gift

For some families, Cine-gift is a tradition that has its roots in childhood and has been spreading its branches for decades. Journalist Stéphanie Morin presents three that have a special connection with this holiday classic.

The gift we keep giving ourselves

Ciné-gift blows out its 40 candles. Beyond the number, rarely reached on television, this anniversary confirms our deep, even visceral attachment to the cult Télé-Québec rendezvous, which is usually accompanied by a good hot chocolate.

Why do I like Ciné-gift so much? Quite simply because as a child, Ciné-cadeau allows you to dream, to be in the spirit of the Holidays, regardless of your parents’ financial condition. We weren’t really rich, with very difficult years, but my mother always made sure that at Christmas it didn’t show. This is exactly the feeling that Ciné-gift gave me. When the programming launched, I was neither poor nor rich, I was a little guy who loved the holiday magic. I perpetuate this tradition with my own children aged 5 and 3 (and my girlfriend!) who must and will have to undergo a little moment of Tintin orAsterix annually. I’m a diehard: stop adding new stuff to the lineup, I want my Tintin and the shark lake and Asterix and Cleopatra !

Asterix and Cleopatra, it is THE classic of classics. It is synonymous with sweet moments spent, inevitably, with the family. Moments of complicity, sharing, laughter and tears (ah! this dear Cléo… she brings me tears every time). It was a ritual when I was a child, one of the few that lasted even during my adolescence. My husband is also a fan Ciné-gift finished. No need to tell you that our five children quickly became too. […] They were barely 2 years old when they already knew Cleopatra’s lion song and sang along with them. They still do it today, even our teenagers! It’s one of the rare moments when they pick up their phones to come and share, as a family, these sweet moments of television pleasure.

It only happens once a year

“At a time of the multiplication of platforms and the atomization of audiences, there is something very sympathetic to the idea that a program can rally so many people of all ages for almost half a century, without any signs of fatigue. For this reason, I have the impression that Télé-Québec will never be able to draw the plogue of Ciné-cadeau, under penalty of being accused of killing the spirit of Christmas, ”tells us the columnist Chantal Guy.
