For a moving company in Besançon (Doubs), it’s a week at an approximately normal pace. Two moves are planned each day. MBut in recent months, this work rate has become exceptional. “We can not work for two or three days a week, and we don’t know the following week if we will work every day”indicates Mickaël Moreira, team leader of the movers.
Movers forced to take leave
Mickaël Moreira has been in the business for 20 years. Like his colleagues, he is forced to take leave to to compensate this lack of activity. Due to inflation, individuals also prefer to move on their own. According to the president of the Bourgogne Franche-Comté Trade Union Chamber, Germain Courtet, the key is in the hands of the banks. “To boost the real estate sector, I think it is vital to lower interest rates today”, he believes. After the health crisis, the sector was in good shape. Today, professionals hope to see increasing turnover during the year 2024.
