In Japan, Mount Fuji is a revered mountain that rises to nearly 3,800 meters. Over time, its difficult ascent has become a pilgrimage that attracts tourists from all over the world. The crater is placed under close surveillance, as it is still active, even though the last eruption dates back more than 300 years.

Mount Fuji is the icon of Japan. This holy mountain for the Japanese is majestic in all seasons. Every summer, it is taken over by hikers. A group of French expatriates, of the work colleagues, challenged themselves to reach the summit in less than 24 hours. Even if the path is marked, the ascent is difficult, with 1,500 meters of elevation and a zigzag in the mist that never ends. Of the ten shelters, each delivers its own little certificate.

A volcanologist is absorbed in the study of the volcano, 100,000 years old. Mount Fuji is always active, though it rarely wakes up from its slumber. The last eruption dates back more than 300 years. Projections had even reached Tokyo, located 100 meters away.We cannot predict its next eruption. It could be in a week, a month or even 1,000 years.“, says mitsuhiro Yoshimotovolcanologist. More than 2,500 hikers climb Fuji every year.
