A tank truck overturned on the A7 motorway on Wednesday May 18. Its tank contained a dangerous solvent, which impeded traffic and blocked the road for several hours.

Wednesday, May 18, in the heat wave, hundreds of trucks and cars were blocked for hours on the A7 motorway. Some attempt a U-turn on the highway. “There are people who dismantled the railing here to pass [sur l’autre voie]. There are the gendarmes who block“, films a man held on the spot. A truck overturned near Chasse-sur-Rhône, south of Lyon (Rhône). It contained 19,000 liters of carbon disulphide, a flammable product.

Some motorists claim not to have received information and to have run out of water while they were trapped in the traffic jam. “We must be able to do better in our country in 2022, rather than leaving people without much information for several hours“, asks Emmanuel Imberton, company manager, who was stuck for five hours. To avoid the risk of pollution, 60 tonnes of earth were placed on the road.
