The party turned tragic. The driver of a car drove into a crowd gathered for a carnival, Sunday March 20 at dawn, in the city of La Louvière, in the south of Belgium. The tragedy killed seven people and injured around thirty., according to a new assessment consulted by France televisions.

The facts occurred around 5 a.m. in Strépy-Bracquegnies, a village which is part of the industrial town of La Louvière. During a press conference, the mayor reported that between 150 and 200 people had just left the sports hall to go up towards the center of the village when a vehicle rushed towards them at high speed.

Belgian Interior Minister Annelies Verlinden offered her condolences to the families and friends of those killed. “What was supposed to be a friendly party turned into a tragedy. We are monitoring the situation closely”, she said on Twitter. The reasons for the tragedy are unknown at this time.
