A 1-year-old child was hit by a motorist on the Bloomfield in Montreal, while an adult was walking him in a stroller in the Outremont district of Montreal, on Wednesday, November 16.
On Tuesday evening, a video circulated on social networks showing a toddler in his stroller being hit by a motorist at an intersection. In these images, the vehicle seemed to rather accelerate as it approached the intersection, despite the presence of a stop sign.
The Service de Police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM) confirmed the collision. On Wednesday, November 16, a call was made to 911 around 2:40 p.m. reporting a hit-and-run involving the collision between a motorist and a 1-year-old toddler, at the corner of Lajoie and Bloomfield streets in Outremont.
According to witnesses interviewed by officers, the vehicle was traveling northbound on Bloomfield Street. The motorist reportedly slowed down at the intersection and continued on his way, hitting the coach, said Jeanne Drouin, spokesperson for the SPVM.
The driver, driving a small black car, then fled towards Van Horne Avenue without giving assistance.
According to initial information, the child would have been immediately transferred by the Emergency Health services, and would not have suffered any injuries. No other injuries were reported.
An investigation is underway and no arrests have been made, confirmed Jeanne Drouin.
“Like all of you, I am in shock after watching this video. I am in communication with the SPVM and I hope that they will be able to quickly identify the driver of the vehicle. Despite all this, I am relieved to learn that the child is doing well, ”said the mayor of the borough of Outremont, Laurent Desbois, on Twitter.
