Mother’s Day | For the gourmet mom

Mom likes to eat and drink well? Here are some lovely gifts to give him, including some to enjoy in your company.

An invitation to eat at 9e

If you’re already aware of the reopening of this Montreal architectural icon, you know that Île de France is THE restaurant you have to take your mother (and grandmother) to in the coming weeks. The dining room, which was formerly in the large room now reserved for events, will be in a more intimate and bright section of the famous 9e floor of the Eaton Center. With Liam Hopkins as executive chef and Derek Dammann in the role of catering director, it goes without saying that the menu will be on point, somewhere between nostalgia and modernity. The opening to the public in Île de France should take place in mid-May.

Honeys from the French brand Hédène

Discover honeys

For several years, my dear mother has been collecting honey. She has dozens of them and from time to time, she offers me a tasting. The nectars that systematically stand out from the crowd? Those from the French brand Hédène, which you can buy here at the Gourmet Laurier grocery store and at the Les passions de Manon boutique (Saint-Hyacinthe). The differences in terroirs and flowers are incredibly clear and the diversity of scents is impressive. Some honeys – including heather – even have a hint of acidity that makes you salivate. Each 250 g jar costs around $25, depending on the flavors.

It’s never too late to learn about wine!

Discover wine

It’s never too late to learn about wine! Some tasting course options are more fun than others. This is the case at the nice restaurant/natural wine bar Verdun Beach and at the Ahuntsic institution Les Cavistes. At the Blanc Bec bar at the ITHQ, we give express sessions lasting an hour and a half on the most recent trends in wine. It’s just engaging enough, without becoming boring.

Cooking workshops are always a great activity to do with mom.

Moments in the kitchen

Whether it is to learn how to make fresh pasta at Ateliers et Saveurs (Montreal and Quebec), to discover some Vietnamese, Persian or other specialties at the Westmount bookstore/kitchen Appetite for Books (in English) or to make a chocolate bar personalized at the Etat de choc boutique or at Avaana, cooking workshops are always a great activity to do with mom.
