Mother to daughter style

They are spontaneous and warm. The mother-daughter duo composed of Louise Labrecque and Gabrielle Labrosse share their passion for fashion and provide sartorial advice. We met them in their studio.

We are at 10e floor of a building located on Boulevard Saint-Laurent, in the Chabanel district. We enter a beautiful glazed and bright space. “Welcome to our Avec Style boutique,” say Louise Labrecque and Gabrielle Labrosse, enthusiastically. “This is our space!” And this is where we suggest women build a smart wardrobe. It’s about getting a limited number of clothes that you can put together later. Feeling good in your clothes, whatever your figure, is the DNA of our company,” explains stylist Louise Labrecque, author of Your clothes speak.

“We focus on comfort and timeless style. At the boutique, we welcome women, we guide them, we help them understand their appearance and choose pieces, pants, jackets, dresses, shirts that go together and highlight them,” explains Gabrielle Labrosse.

“It’s an investment, but it’s made to last. We say to ourselves that it’s settled, I have all the essential pieces in my wardrobe, and I feel confident,” adds Louise Labrecque.

According to the latter, we should not underestimate the power of clothes.

Louise Labrecque and her daughter Gabrielle Labrosse wear festive outfits for the holiday season.

We are increasingly aware of the message that clothing sends. We may say that we should not trust first impressions, but they have never been so important, especially in this era of social networks where image is omnipresent.

Their clientele is varied, made up of professionals of all ages – lawyers, psychologists, doctors, professors and businesswomen. “You do us good,” is what the women tell them. “We take really good care of our customers, and they trust us. We sometimes say: ‘No, don’t buy that! It doesn’t suit you!” » said Louise Labrecque.

“There is a psychological side to clothing advice, we want women to feel good and feel beautiful,” she notes. I also think that there is a warm and family side to the studio, the fact that we are mother and daughter, that plays into the atmosphere. »

The “Thursday noon-fashion” meeting

The mother-daughter duo is generating a lot of excitement on social networks, where they can be seen live in their weekly “Thursday noon-fashion” meeting on their Facebook and Instagram accounts. In front of the camera, the two women tackle a new theme each week and answer questions. They talk in particular about style, trends, choosing the right pants according to your appearance, discreet luxury, smart purchases or daring to move away from black. In short, we are treated to a very nice and spontaneous little fashion lesson with concrete examples.

“During the pandemic, I started talking to women via Facebook Live,” explains Louise Labrecque. It was about style, colors, and then I stopped because I told myself that we were experiencing a global drama and that it was not the time to talk about fashion. But the women wanted me to continue, it did them good to talk about something else! Then, my daughter Gabrielle joined me in the company, and everyone adopted her! »

Our duo reminds me of Claudette and Marie-Josée Taillefer in a fashion version! We are very transparent and spontaneous.

Is style passed down from mother to daughter? “Gabrielle is the eldest of my three daughters. When she was little, she followed me everywhere and always loved clothes,” replies the mother. For Gabrielle Labrosse, there was no question of a career in the fashion world. She worked in start-ups in business development/marketing in San Francisco for a few years, and it was when she returned to Montreal that she decided to give her mother a helping hand. “I come from a family with two entrepreneurial parents, I wanted to work for myself, and not for another company. I saw that we worked well together, my mother and I, we complement each other well, I am the operational side of the business and Louise, the artistic side,” she explains.

The duo has just launched their first collection, Avec Style Studio, made up of four timeless pieces, black pants and jacket, white jacket and white t-shirt. “We’re all looking for the perfect black pants!” We did it ! The cut is impeccable! By interacting with women of all ages and shapes, we know what they are looking for,” says Gabrielle Labrosse. Both stylists also work with brands like InWear, Smythe, Frame, Part Two, Heartloom and Rails. “Quality brands, with pieces that you buy and that last,” she adds.

And for the Holidays? What advice do they give for a look that’s worth the cost?

The idea for the holidays is to do just a little bit more! Instead of serving an aperitif, you serve champagne! It’s the same thing for clothing, it has to sparkle, so it’s time to bring out the glitter!

She thinks it’s wise to invest in a jacket, a top, a scarf, a bag, a skirt or pants, because sequins never go out of style. “It can also be a little fuchsia pink! It looks good and is easy to wear. And above all, never neglect makeup, hairstyle and a beautiful lipstick, it makes all the difference,” she suggests.
