Mother injured in hit-and-run

A mother came within a hair’s breadth of death after a hit-and-run on the South Shore, a week ago to the day.

The Richelieu St-Laurent Intermunicipal Police Board has not yet made an arrest, but investigators seized a vehicle and identified an individual considered an important witness.

On December 9 at around 9:30 p.m. in Saint-Basile-le-Grand, Catherine Dumberry, 34, mother of a teenager who had just gotten off the bus, was violently hit by a motorist as she was crossing Route 116. at the pedestrian crossing yet clearly visible on the roadway, near rue Jean-Charles-Michaud.

After the impact, the driver did not stop to provide first aid to the woman who was hospitalized in critical condition with various serious injuries including a punctured lung.

The driver continued on the 116 and took a right turn onto rue Taillon Ouest.

A car was seized for forensic purposes, police said.

The owner of the vehicle was interviewed by investigators.

The driver was traveling at a speed of 70 km/h during the impact, which is the limit permitted in the sector.

The mother’s uncle, Michel Viel, appealed for the public’s help in locating the driver using social media, where he mentioned the wanted vehicle. This is a dark gray 2008 to 2011 Toyota Corolla.
