Mother charged with “involuntary manslaughter” after suspecting she left her baby in her car

The Orléans prosecutor’s office has opened an investigation for “involuntary manslaughter”, France Bleu Orléans learned on Tuesday, July 30. A mother is suspected of having forgotten her nine-month-old baby in her car left in the sun, in Mézières-lez-Cléry in Loiret. Despite the intervention of emergency services, the child did not survive.

The Loiret firefighters were alerted early this afternoon on Thursday. Witnesses reported the presence of a baby left alone in a car parked in front of a small house in the Loiret village. The “Staying Alive” application was triggered by the emergency services, allowing people trained in first aid and located nearby to intervene while waiting for help to arrive.

When the firefighters arrived on the scene, they tried to resuscitate the baby for about thirty minutes, without success. The Orléans gendarmerie was put in charge of the investigation for “involuntary manslaughter” opened by the Orléans prosecutor’s office.

The mother, in a state of shock, has not yet been questioned by the police. According to initial reports, she explained to one of the people who came to rescue the baby using the “Staying Alive” app that she had forgotten her baby in her car after going shopping. When investigators arrived on the scene, they found a temperature of 62°C inside the vehicle.
