The penalty fell. FC Nantes striker Mostafa Mohamed will be financially sanctioned after refusing to wear the rainbow flocked jersey intended to fight homophobia on Sunday May 14 against Toulouse FC (0-0). The day after the meeting, the Loire club announced it in a press release, regretting this controversy by taking “to remember that he will continue to fight against all forms of discrimination, as he has always done”. The money will be donated to the French association SOS homophobia, which fights against homophobic offences.

During the trip to Toulouse, Mostafa Mohamed refused to leave the hotel where the Nantes delegation was staying. “In a period when FC Nantes is fighting to stay in Ligue 1”as the club recalls in its press release, “personal reasons” which resulted in the Egyptian’s absence were frowned upon by the Canaries. Given my roots, my culture, the importance of my convictions and beliefs, it was not possible for me to participate in this campaign”the 25-year-old striker justified himself on his social networks, wishing “don’t argue about it and everyone is treated with respect”.
