In France, violence against mayors is increasing. They are up 15% in one year. “These are distressing figures. Most of my colleagues have been victims of attacks, whether insults or violent gestures”, reacts Joséphine Kollmannsberger, mayor (Les Républicains) of Plaisir (Yvelines), guest of 12/13 info, Monday November 20. According to the councilor, this violence can also manifest itself in the form of demands “with a fairly firm tone”even “aggressive”.
Attempts at intimidation
The mayor was a victim in March 2023, during a municipal council broadcast live on Facebook. “Around thirty hooded young people came”, she explains. They demonstrated loudly against the destruction of housing as part of the rehabilitation of a neighborhood, attempting to intimidate those present.
