According to the Russian Defense Ministry, “Eleven drones were destroyed” over the territory of Moscow and its region during the night from Tuesday to Wednesday, i.e. “one of the largest attempted attacks ever” against the Russian capital with explosive drones, Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said on Wednesday, August 21, on the Telegram messenger.

A total of 45 Ukrainian drones were destroyed by Russian air defense systems over the Moscow, Bryansk, Belgorod, Kaluga and Kursk regions, the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement. A missile was also shot down on Tuesday in the western Rostov region, which borders Ukraine, according to regional governor Vasily Golubev.

The commander of the Ukrainian air force, Mykola Oleshchuk, said that anti-aircraft defenses had shot down during the night fifty explosive drones and one missile launched by Russia against its territory. The head of the military administration of Kiev, Sergiy Popko, specified on Telegram that ten of them had been intercepted while they were “heading towards the capital” of Ukraine. “The air raid lasted all night and into the morning, for more than 9 hours” in total, according to the authorities of the kyiv region.
