Their telephone conversation had lasted nine minutes. The head of Russian diplomacy took offense, Wednesday, July 6, to the broadcast on France 2 of an interview between Emmanuel Macron and Vladimir Putin, four days before Moscow launched its assault on Ukraine. “Diplomatic etiquette does not provide for unilateral leaks of (such) recordings”noted the Russian Foreign Minister, Sergei Lavrov, during a trip to Vietnam.

This documentary, titled A President, Europe and the War, aired Thursday, June 30. Produced by journalist Guy Lagache, it closely follows Emmanuel Macron during his assumption of the presidency of the Council of the European Union and retraces the mediation of the French president to try to prevent the war in Ukraine and then the escalation of the conflict.

According to Sergei Lavrov, Russia should not be ashamed of the content of the conversation between the two leaders. “We always conduct negotiations in such a way that we never have to be ashamed. We always say what we think, we are ready to answer for our words and explain our position”did he declare.
