The Russian army claimed on Sunday January 21 the capture of a small town in the Kharkiv region, in eastern Ukraine. “The village of Krakhmalnoye (…) was liberated thanks to the successful active operations carried out by the units of the ‘West’ group of troops in the Kupiansk zone”declared the Russian Ministry of Defense in its daily bulletin of operations in Ukraine.
For their part, the kyiv forces assure that this village has not “no importance” from a military point of view. “These are five houses. They were destroyed by the Russians”downplayed the Ukrainian army, assuring that its troops had been “moved to prepared reserve positions”where they “now hold the defense, preventing the enemy from further advancing”.
This announcement, however, illustrates the increased pressure exerted by Moscow’s forces on the front in recent weeks. On Thursday, the Russian army had already announced the conquest of another small town, Veseloïe, in the Donetsk region (east).
