Crédit Mutuel announced Tuesday, November 9 that it wanted to remove the health questionnaire requested for a mortgage, and which may prove to be discriminatory for some.
The questions are often intrusive. And yet, they are essential to obtain a mortgage. Tobacco use, HIV, cancer … This information is transmitted by people wishing to contract a mortgage with their bank. But according to the responses, the price of insurance is not the same.
At Crédit Mutuel, since Tuesday, November 9 in the morning, it’s over. No more health questionnaires and therefore surcharges for fragile clients. But there are still drastic conditions: be under 62, have been a customer for more than seven years and borrow less than 500,000 euros. Lack of profit for the bank: 70 million euros per year according to Crédit Mutuel. But this one is especially afraid of losing customers, because today, it is possible to change borrower insurance once a year, on the anniversary date of the contract. Tomorrow it could be anytime, all year. A project that worries the banks.
