A vocational high school in the northern districts of Marseille (Bouches-du-Rhône) was targeted on Friday October 11 in the morning by firework mortars, pushing the management to close the establishment for the day, reports France Bleu Provence.

It was around 7:30 a.m., Friday morning, that several young people caused disorder in front of this La Californie high school, located in the 14th arrondissement of Marseille. The young people, around ten according to France Bleu Provence, set fire to trash cans and containers in front of the establishment, before creating a barrier preventing the students from entering the establishment.

Supervisors and teachers tried to intervene, before being targeted by firework mortars. Two adults were slightly injured. The 450 students were sent home while the head of the school filed a complaint. The teachers exercised their right of withdrawal. “The team is deeply shockedindicates the Snuep-FSU union in a press release. Everything must be done to ensure the security of the surrounding areas (…) but short-term security responses cannot be enough.”

Renaud Muselier, the president of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region, also reacted in a press release published on X. “This attempt at intimidation is intolerable”he wrote, calling the rectorate “to act with firmness and impose exemplary sanctions”.
