Morocco closes its air borders with France

The borders are gradually closing. Morocco has decided to suspend regular flights to and from France due to the resurgence of the Covid-19 epidemic, announced Thursday, November 25, the Interministerial Committee for the Coordination and Monitoring of the Device Governing Travel international organizations during the pandemic.

The Moroccan authorities’ decision to suspend direct flights from France has been postponed until Sunday, November 28 at midnight instead of Friday, November 26, 2021, the Committee said. “The decision to postpone the suspension of direct flights from France to Sunday is aimed at facilitating the return operation for Moroccan citizens and foreigners residing in Morocco”, specifies the Interministerial Committee.

The announcement “intervenes in order to preserve the achievements of Morocco in terms of management of the Covid-19 pandemic and to deal with the deterioration of the health situation in certain countries of the European neighborhood”, notes the Interministerial Covid Monitoring Committee. France is by far Morocco’s leading economic partner. Cultural and human ties are also close: more than 1.3 million Moroccans live in France and nearly 80,000 French people live in Morocco.
