Moritz Seider signs new seven-year contract with Red Wings

(Detroit) The Detroit Red Wings made another major investment this week, signing defenseman Moritz Seider to a seven-year, nearly $60 million contract on Thursday.

Seider will receive an average of 8.55 million per year.

The Red Wings announced the deal with the 23-year-old German on Thursday, three days after signing forward Lucas Raymond to an eight-year, $64.6 million contract.

The Red Wings selected Seider sixth overall in the National Hockey League (NHL) draft five years ago. His 134 points are the best by a defenseman in that draft class to date.

He was the only player to record 200 hits and 200 shots last season, during which he scored nine goals and totaled 42 points.

Seider won the Calder Trophy as rookie of the year in 2022 after scoring a career-high 50 points.

Red Wings general manager Steve Yzerman is counting on Seider and Raymond to rebuild the team, which has not made the playoffs in the past eight seasons.
