More than a ton of cocaine seized at the port of Degrad des Cannes on April 25

More than a ton of cocaine was seized on April 25 at the port of Dégrad des Cannes, this is a record seizure in Guyana, which confirms the interest of traffickers in export by sea.

Customs officers seized more than a ton of cocaine on Thursday at the commercial port of Dégrad Des Cannes, in Remire-Montjoly, Guyana, according to several corroborating sources. The drugs had to be transported by boat to France.

The case is being managed by the Specialized Interregional Jurisdiction of Fort de France, in Martinique. The territorial judicial police service was seized of the investigation.
The public prosecutor and the regional customs directorate have not yet responded to our requests.

This is the largest seizure ever made in Guyana. There was a precedent, of lesser importance: on October 1, 2020, 594 kilos of cocaine were intercepted in a vehicle near the commercial port. Four suspects were arrested in the following days in connection with this case, then five others in 2021.
This case, entrusted to the Specialized Inter-Regional Jurisdiction (JIRS) of Fort de France, in Martinique, has not yet been judged.
