Iraq has announced two new flights to repatriate on Friday 26 and Saturday 27 November more than 800 Iraqi migrants stranded at the border between Belarus and Poland, after three similar operations which allowed the return of several hundred of them, mainly of Kurds. A fourth flight will take place on Friday evening and will carry 431 people, while a fifth plane will carry 430 people on Saturday, Iraqi foreign spokesman Ahmed al-Sahaf said in a statement. More than a thousand migrants have already been repatriated since the start of these operations on November 18.
Since the start of the crisis this summer, thousands of people have gathered on the border of Belarus and Poland, spending all their savings and going into debt in an attempt to escape the misery in their country and join Western Europe. . Thousands of them, including Iraqi Kurds, are still stranded in the area. The West accuses Belarus of artificially creating the crisis by issuing visas in revenge for Western sanctions. Minsk denied this accusation, criticizing the European Union for not welcoming migrants.
