(Montreal) More than 7,200 women worked on construction sites in Quebec in 2022 – a record according to the Construction Commission.
This number of 7200 represents 970 more than the previous year, in 2021.
However, their representation is far from proportional; this is only 3.64% of the total construction industry workforce for the year 2022.
This means that 4,300 companies hired at least one woman that year.
The Construction Commission has already set up equal access programs for women with the aim of correcting their under-representation in the industry.
Both the construction companies and the unions have pledged to participate actively to promote not only the hiring, but also the retention of women in employment.
