More than 60 firefighters mobilized in Vitré for a field fire near housing estates

Big scare in Vitré this Monday afternoon. Around 1:30 p.m. a fire broke out in a field south of the town near housing estates and a retirement home. Luckily no one was injured but the flames quickly spread. About twenty machines and more than sixty firefighters from Vitré, Argentré-du-Plessis, Gévezé and Mayenne were engaged. Farmers also came to lend a hand.

“The municipal police went to see the people who lived next door to ask them to take shelter, the residents of the retirement home were confined during this time, says the mayor of Vitré, Isabelle Le Callennec. According to the elected official, the fire was under control at 4:30 p.m., there was no evacuation or resident to be relocated.
