more than 500 people for the two events

The atmosphere was strange to say the least this Saturday in Callac, in the Côtes d’Armor, a small town of 2,200 inhabitants. Two meetings were organized at the same time and only a few meters apart.

These two events, which were brought together approximately 250 people eachare linked to the Horizon project, which aims to welcome refugees and renovate vacant sites.

The first, at the initiative of the far-right party Reconquest, opposed the project to welcome refugees in a former college in the city. And the second, organized by residents of the city, left-wing parties (NPA, LFI)unions (CGT) and associations, to denounce the ideas of exclusion of opponents and defend the Breton tradition of solidarity.

In the ranks of the latter, the municipal team but also the LFI deputy for the 4th district of Côtes d’Armor, Murielle Lepvraudand the PCF senator of the department, Gerard Lahellec.

The gatherings took place peacefully despite some invective between far-right nationalist groups and anti-fa. An important device had been deployed: filtering barriers by the gendarmes and CRS present, identity checks at the entrance to the Callac center.
