The fires currently devastating Colorado have potentially destroyed more than 500 homes, the Boulder County Sheriff said Thursday, as the US state is hit by a historic drought.
“We know that around 370 homes in the Sagamore subdivision have been destroyed. It is possible that 210 homes were destroyed in Old Town Superior, ”Sheriff Joe Pelle said at a press conference.
Colorado, a state in the western United States, experienced a historic drought which greatly facilitated the displacement of the flames.
At least 648 hectares of vegetation have gone up in flames in Boulder County, with the blaze including hotels and shopping centers.
“I would like to emphasize the scale and intensity of this fire and its presence in an area so densely populated, we would not be surprised if there were injuries or deaths”, warned Joe Pelle. .
