No to the decision to euthanize Toto the wild boar“: an online petition collected more than 40,000 signatures on Wednesday, July 17, to oppose the euthanasia of a wild boar. Launched on July 12, and massively relayed on social networks in recent days, this petition on Change.org opposes the euthanasia of Toto, a young wild boar, decided by the Douai Court of Appeal (North).

The animal was discovered by walkers, a family from Boiry-Becquerelle (Pas-de-Calais), in the fall of 2023, when it was attacked by dogs in a forest in Aisne. Collected and treated, the wild boar was finally seized by the authorities: the law prohibits keeping a wild animal at home. On July 12, the decision was finally made: the Douai Court of Appeal requested euthanasia, considering that “Toto presents risks of danger as well as risks of contagion of diseases, in particular for pig farms“, reports France Bleu Champagne-Ardenne.

Denouncing this decision, The family finally filed an appeal on Tuesday, through their lawyer, thanks to the support of several animal rights associations. In addition, theThe mayor of Charleville-Mézières, who had offered to welcome the wild boar into the town’s animal park, also said he had filed an appeal against the decision of the Douai Court of Appeal.

Boris Ravignon explains that he filed this appeal “because the proposal we made seems to have been misunderstood: we have always said that we will accommodate the animal in a separate enclosure” he said to France Blue Champagne-Ardenne.
