The hospital remains a target for cyberterrorists. Of the 581 IT incidents recorded last year by the Digital Health Agency in hospitals and medico-social establishments, around half concerned cyberattacks, that is to say attacks targeting their IT systems. These figures were made public on Tuesday May 21 in the annual report published by the Agency.

More than 250 cyberattacks were detected last year against hospitals or health establishments. This figure is stable, and in fact this represents attacks ranging from simple malicious emails to ransom demands. 32 ransomware cases were reported last year. The good news, according to Olivier Ruet Cros, analyst at the Digital Health Agency, is that hospitals are increasingly able to detect these attacks early enough to act. “They are better equipped and equipped, there are more people to manage problems, so overall they see more problems and are able to say so,” analyzes the specialist.

“This means that prevention systems are starting to work. The better things go, the more we are able to have reports reaching us upstream, so before it becomes too critical.”

According to the report from the Digital Health Agency, cyberterrorists attack public hospitals in particular, but also more rarely nursing homes and biology laboratories. In around sixty cases last year, data was disclosed. Specifically, these are patient files or their analysis results. If there is a risk for patients, such as the disruption of the SAMU telephone service or prescription software, the report notes that last year in fact, there was only one implementation danger to patients.
