The Guinean government announced Sunday, November 6 that more than 24 people had died in a collision between a bus transporting students and a truck which occurred in the west of the country. The accident took place in Sougueta, a village about 130 km from the capital Conakry, which the bus had left to reach Faranah, a locality which is home to several schools and universities.

The accident resulted from a “collision between a minibus carrying several students and a truck”, the loading of which has not been specified. A local official, Kabinet Kaké, and a gendarmerie official had previously told AFP that 21 people had been killed.
Fifteen people had already been killed in mid-September in Guinea in the nighttime accident of a minibus. Deadly road accidents occur regularly in the country and are usually due to poor road and vehicle conditions, as well as reckless drivers.
