This is’“an absolute record, never before observed for a month of June since 1989, the start of observations made by Météorage”writes in a press release the lightning detection specialist. “This month of June alone represents 73% of lightning activity in the first half of 2022, with 29 stormy days and 206,257 cloud-to-ground lightning (out of 283,266 recorded since the start of the year)”specifies the SME based in Pau (Pyrénées-Atlantiques).
Météorage is a European leader in lightning risk prevention, with around twenty precision sensors in France (more than a hundred in Europe), and more than 1,600 subscribers to an alert system linked to impact detection. .
