more than 20,000 crossings to England since January 1, 2022

It’s a telling figure: 20,000 migrants have crossed the Channel illegally since the start of the year, according to the report from the British Home Office published on Sunday. We are heading towards a record, since if we look precisely at the figures, last year on the same date, there were 11,300 migrants. This year, we are already at more than 20,000.

On Saturday alone, according to British authorities, 607 people crossed the English Channel on small boats : one of the highest figures since January. And the crossings should continue according to an English parliamentary report, reaching 60,000 exiles by the end of the year, despite the measures put in place by the British government.

Latest measure, this agreement signed in April with Rwanda, to expel thousands of asylum seekers to this East African country. A very controversial measure since the European Court of Human Rights canceled a first flight last June: no evictions took place for the moment.
