On the Atlantic coast, many boat owners noted with horror the damage caused by the passage of storm Aline. Many of them have lost track of their boat.
Boats half submerged, others completely smashed. On the morning of Saturday October 21, the Arcachon basin presented a sad picture. The day before, storm Aline swept across the Atlantic coast. Wind gusts of up to 120 km/h in places and strong swells removed more than 200 boats from their moorings, drifting in the basin. Since this morning, Bernard Christian has been traveling the roads in search of his pleasure boat. The opportunity for this fishing enthusiast to see the extent of the damage: “It’s the first time I’ve seen that in the fifty years I’ve been on the basin”.
A prolonged wait for big boats
The maritime gendarmerie comes to the aid of the owners. Their mission: to identify all the stranded boats. Some boats were able to be refloated by companies, an operation that insurance companies should cover. The larger boats will only be able to be recovered at high tide at the end of next week.
