Nicknamed tropical flu, dengue fever could break a record for contamination in France in 2024. Since the start of the year, more than 1,650 cases have been recorded. Last year, only 131 cases were identified over the same period. The cases are mainly imported by people returning from the French West Indies where the virus is very present. The situation worries health authorities.
An epidemic during the Olympics?
Doctor Grégory Emery, Director General of Health, announced that “the significant number of imported cases could lead to the establishment in France of indigenous transmission chains”. In question ? The tiger mosquito, recognizable by its white stripes. Dengue fever is only transmitted through their bite. So three months before the Olympic Games, the virus could wreak havoc.
