More than 16 million from Ottawa for the addition of a track on the railway bridge at the Port of Montreal

Federal Transport Minister Pablo Rodriguez announced Monday morning an “investment of up to $16.75 million” for the addition of a track on the Pie-IX railway bridge at the Port of Montreal.

According to Minister Rodriguez, who made the announcement during a summit organized by the Eastern Montreal Chamber of Commerce, “this investment in the Port of Montreal will strengthen the supply chains.”

The project involves the addition of a fourth track on the Pie-IX railway bridge, the construction of a storage area and the rehabilitation of the bridge.

The investment will support Sucre Lantic in its expansion and “bring their sugar more easily to Ontario,” explained the minister.

Sucre Lantic, which has a factory located in the Montreal port area, rue Notre-Dame Est, recently announced an investment of $200 million to increase its production capacity by 20%.

In a press release, the president and CEO of Rogers Sugar and Lantic, Mike Walton, indicated that “the fourth track will allow additional fluidity to allow us to serve our customers”.

He added that “Sucre Lantic favors rail transport as part of its activities and this investment will allow it to continue in this direction. »

The investment announced by Ottawa comes from the National Trade Corridors Fund.
