In Canada, nearly 122,000 hectares went up in smoke in the province of Alberta. More than 30,000 people had to leave their homes.

As close as possible to the risk zone. A few hundred meters from the helicopter, a gigantic column of smoke. All around the pilot, five fires stand out very clearly. Here are the outbreaks filmed from a satellite: the winds are strong, the propagation ultra fast. On this map, the 110 fires in progress, just in the province of Alberta, of which a third are at this time out of control, despite the exceptional means deployed to control them.

Evacuations underway in British Columbia

“The region experienced a hot and dry spring. With so much dried wood, it only takes a few sparks to ignite fires out of control,” said Alberta Premier Danielle Smith. Thousands of people have been ordered to leave their house. Everything happened very quickly. “I don’t know if our house will still be there tomorrow,” said an evacuated woman. The fires continue to progress in Western Canada, such as in British Columbia, where evacuations are underway.
