The department of Bouches-du-Rhône and in particular the city of Marseille are shaken by a new “peak of violence for a few weeks”, says on franceinfo Tuesday, October 4 Frédérique Camilleri. This situation results, according to her, “of two major conflicts between two clans of traffickers, one of which is based in the 3rd arrondissement of Marseille”.

This situation “encouraged me to deploy CRS units in addition to the action of the police”, adds the prefect. In total, since the start of 2022, 25 people have died in the department against a backdrop of settling of accounts and drug trafficking.
Fines recorded on the criminal record
Frederique Camilleri describes a drug trade that “generates a lot of money and that comes directly from consumers’ pockets”. “That’s why we have focused on consumers, because without them there is not the rest of the chain that ends with these homicides in the middle of the street”.
These are so “more than 10,000 consumers” which have been verbalized in Marseille and its surroundings since the beginning of 2022. “Fines which are registered on their criminal record and in the event of a repeat offense they are presented to a magistrate”, specifies Frédérique Camilleri.

Operations “say shelling traffic points” are also accentuated, explains the prefect of Bouches-du-Rhône, allowing the arrest of dealers and lookouts, but also the seizure of narcotics, money and weapons.

According to the Minister of the Interior, at the origin of these shelling operations, there were 150 deal points in the Bouches-du-Rhône. “We take a photograph every three months, and we have eliminated 36 compared to February 2021″, points out Frédérique Camilleri. According to the prefect, these shelling operations also have an impact on the points of persistent deal whose “Turnovers have dropped considerably and so has the number of customers”. We must, she says,“keep crumbling them”.
Many of these traffics are managed from abroad, admits the prefect of Bouches-du-Rhône. “There have been very good arrests in the United Arab Emirates, Colombia and Morocco in recent months by the Marseille judicial police, we must continue this work: the time of the investigation is unfortunately longer than that of the news, but it is what will allow us to put these teams of killers out of harm’s way”, concludes the representative of the State.
