The new chapter to learn for this new school year: knowing how to react at all ages in the event of imminent danger.
We can learn how to react well during an earthquake, a tsunami or a storm. Especially in the Alpes Maritimes, as autumn begins because the department has experienced a series of storms.
Benoit Huber Chief of Staff to the Prefect of the Alpes-Maritimes guest of the morning France Bleu azur, France3 Côte d’Azur returns to the culture of risk “it is learned throughout life, from childhood to old age”
The prefecture with the City of Cannes and the rectorate are launching a special major risk day this Monday for children in primary schools in the Cannes-La-Bocca sector. Thousands of students will learn the gestures that save, to protect themselves and to protect others in concrete workshops.
The culture of risk concerns all levels. Teachers are also trained and “we are developing alert messages to the population via SMS”
The Alpes Maritimes have been immersed for 2 days in the memory of previous episodes: the bad weather of 2015 then 2020.
Storm Alex two years ago with very heavy rains mixed with hail and strong winds had caused considerable damage to public infrastructure, such as roads and many badly damaged bridges. The cost is estimated at 720 million euros for the three valleys: Vésubie, Tinée and Roya.
“At the end of 2022 or the beginning of 2023, 80% of the reconstruction will have been carried out”, declares for his part the prefect delegated to the reconstruction of the valleys, Xavier Pelletier.
250 buildings, representing a total of 317 owners, are eligible for the Barnier fund, which enables the State to acquire and then destroy buildings by compensating their owners. “Half of the acquisitions have already been made,” according to Prefect Pelletier.
More than one billion euros are committed by the public authorities for this reconstruction non-standard including 615 million euros by the State and 215 million euros to date at the expense of the Alpes-Maritimes department.
