More bad news for the Maple Leafs

Already affected by multiple injuries in recent weeks, the Toronto Maple Leafs will now have to deal with the absence of their starting goalie Joseph Woll.

Indeed, the team announced on Saturday that the American will be absent for several weeks, the latter having suffered an ankle injury during the game against the Ottawa Senators on Thursday.

He left the confrontation midway through the third period and did not return to his net afterward.

“It’s tough for our team and it’s tough for Joseph [Woll], said head coach Sheldon Keefe on Saturday, whose comments were relayed by “Toronto Sun” journalist Terry Koshan. However, it is a great opportunity for the other two goalkeepers, in particular for [Ilya] Samsonov.”

Samsonov and Martin Jones will therefore make up the goalkeeping duo of the Queen City club. The first city has experienced a lot of difficulties since the start of the season, posting a performance of 4-1-3, a goals against average of 3.58 and an efficiency rate of .878.

As for Jones, he came in relief of Woll against the Senators. He held the fort to allow his team to record the victory (4 to 3) by making nine saves on 10 shots.

This season, Woll has eight wins in 14 games, in addition to posting a .916 save percentage.
