If the catering and hotel industry lack manpower, another sector is affected by desertion, that of pharmacies. A pharmacy in Mayenne, for example, is struggling to be taken over after five years of research.

In France, a new sector is struggling to recruit employees. After the restoration or even the building, it is now the pharmacies that are struggling to find staff. There would be a shortage of 15,000 assistants and pharmacists. There is a real lack of interest in rural areas, such as in Mayenne where the pharmacist of a municipality cannot find a buyer. Thus, in Saint-Denis-de-Gastines (Mayenne), Paulette Lesoif is about to hand over. After 35 years in this pharmacy, she would like to retire at the end of the month. But she has yet to find anyone to take over her business.

Despite numerous advertisements on the internet, in five years, she has had only one proposal, while she has lowered her price by more than 70%. “At the moment, there is a disaffection for all that is small rural towns. We see it for a lot of businesses, it is difficult to find buyers”, she analyzes. This announced closure is a source of concern for the inhabitants. Without this pharmacy, they will have to travel more than ten kilometers to get their medication. Faced with the media craze around her story, Paulette Lesoif could well end up selling her pharmacy.
