You’ve definitely seen them before. These green and white trucks with a Breton hat. “The founder wanted to wear a bagpipe but his wife preferred the hat,” says Sabrina Rasori, communications director for Déménageurs bretons.
The founder is Roger Daniélou, who in 1968 left his native Brittany to follow his wife who was transferred to the Post Office in Bordeaux. The brand has since grown: 150 agencies and 1,800 employees for more than 50,000 moves per year. They take place throughout the country, not just in Brittany (and even abroad), for an average cost of 1,350 euros.
Like the founder of the brand, the French move massively for professional reasons. But also for a better quality of life. “What is new, Sabrina Rasori emphasizes, It’s climate change. We have 6% of French people who want to move because of natural disasters and climate change.”
About the environment, with very polluting trucks, how can we move greener? “The Breton Movers have been using what are called mobile boxes on trains for a long time. We are, of course, trying to take more ecological actions, with responsible boxes. For example, we have established a partnership with Emmaüs: we give our customers boxes in which they can put objects they no longer use and which Emmaüs collects.”
