More and more French people are choosing to spend their winter holidays at the sea. Report from the Issambres campsite in Roquebrune-sur-Argens, in the Var, one of the few open all year round.
A stone’s throw from the sea, the Issambres campsite in Roquebrune-sur-Argens (Var) is ideally located. “This morning, the weather is great, not a bit of wind, the sea is going to be flat, it’s going to be perfect”, rejoices Manuel Archer, a vacationer from Lyon. 15°C, a rolling sea: the conditions are ideal for a paddle session. Winter seaside holidays are becoming more and more popular. At the Issambres campsite, prices are 30 to 40% cheaper compared to August. And that’s not the only advantage: “Here, it’s great, traffic is easy. We can go everywhere, we get around well”testifies Michel Villevieille, originally from Vaucluse.
“We realized that there was a real need”
In the middle of February, the occupancy rate is 55%. The campsite is one of the few to be open all year round. “We realized that there was a real need and we have more and more customers. And today, it’s quite interesting to open year-round. Afterwards, we have a customers who are very pleasant, who are curious about everything, who come to discover the region…”explains Pascal De Mattéi, the owner of the campsite.
